A little technique instruction:

  1. I like homemade graphite paper best is easy make and easy to erase.
Transfer the design onto tracing paper, draw on the design then on the back side of the paper using the side of the pencil lead, scribble over the pattern, rub with a clean paper towel to remove excess graphite. Lay pattern on your paper and trace over it with a stylus. (not to hard you just want lines not groves)
  2. Dampen paper lightly before painting on the base wash of color.(not wet just lightly moist)
  3. When mixing paint in the bubble palette add a drop or two of paint to a lot of water (approximately 15-20 drops of water to a drop of paint) Stir well with an old paint brush before using. It's better to have it to watery and apply several coats than to have it to dark. (the paint is just a tint and should let the inking show through)
  4. I do not base everything first when using this watery technique. I do one part at a time and let it dry so the colors do not bleed into one another.
  5. When applying the floated shading, dip your brush into the water and blot out some of the water on a paper towel. Dip just the corner of the brush into the paint , blend your paint by brushing back and forth on a wax palette. (I use freezer paper, you get a lot on the roll and it is cheaper to buy) The paint should only be half way across you brush when you apply it to the paper. The paint should fade out gadually across the paper as you apply it. Test on a seperate piece of paper first so there are no surprises!

Trace & Panting Instructions:

The actual size of this pin is approximately 2 3/8" x 2 3/8". Your printer may make it larger or smaller when it prints, so you are welcome to resize it to that size or whatever size works best for you.

      1. Trace pattern on to watercolor paper,
      2. Ink on all the detail lines, let dry.
      3. Spray lightly with the Krylon spray just to make sure the lines don't run.

        (Box Lid)
      4. Paint the top of the box lid around the flowers and leaves with a very light wash of Sapphire. Then float Sapphire around the lower edge of the lid and under the flowers and leaves.
      5. Paint the flowers with a light wash of Fuchsia. Then float Fuchsia in the center curl of the flower.
      6. Paint the leaves with a very light wash of Deep Teal. Then float the Deep Teal on the bottom edge of the leaves.
      7. The side of the box top is floated with Trail Tan.

        (Box)
      8. Alternate the stripe colors.Paint the first stripe and every other one after that with a wash of Sapphire, then float Sapphire down the left side of the stripe.
      9. Paint the other stripes with a light wash of Trail Tan, then float Trail Tan down the left side of the stripe.
      10. Paint a light wash of Dark brown inside the box. ( Dark Brown will be floated on each side of the enclosure tag but not until it is glued into place).

        (Enclosure tag)
      11. Float Antique White on the top of the enclosure tag.
      12. Float Trail Tan on the bottom of the enclosure tag and on the left side of each letter.
      13. With the X-Acto knife cut a line between the lid and the box to insert the tag. Once in place glue the little tab in the back, to secure it in place. Now float with Dark Brown shading on each side.
      14. Glue on the pin back and let dry.
      15. Seal the pin with Decoupage Medium ( I gave mine three coats on the front letting it dry between coats and one coat on the back.)

I want to thank you all for picking my design. I hope you find it easy to make and fun to wear. I enjoy being part of this group of artist very much!
