Both of the angels use the same body and wing pattern up to the waist. I have included various different ways to change the angel hair, how she is delivering the baby to heaven etc. Please alter this pattern any way you like.

Blue Box Directions
Base coat the box with periwinkle blue and allow to dry (will take two coats). With a damp sea sponge and varying pressure to achieve different size area and values of stippling, sponge all over the box with light ivory. Allow to dry before applying pattern.

Base coat areas as follows:
Dress - lisa pink
Skin - santa flesh
Wings - chambray blue
Baby Blanket - white
Shoes, ribbon around angel's waist - sweetheart blush
angels & baby's hair - Using a rake brush, set in hair with black

Dress
Wash the entire dress with a 50/50 wash of white. Follow the flow of the fabric with the wash or the dress will not look like the angel is flying.
Shade under the hair, under the arm, around both sides of the waist ribbon with wild rose. Create movement in the dress with slash floats of wild rose.
(A slash float is to load the brush as for floating but to wiggle the brush side ways as you apply the paint.)
With white, highlight the top of the dress, the outer curve of the sleeves and the hem of the skirt.

Baby Blanket
Using chambray, shade lightly under angel's sleeve and hands. Create folds here and there to give the appearance of a little person inside the blanket.

Wings
Shade with navy blue and then with black in the darkest areas. Separate the two wings, give each wing a ridge on the top and separate each line of feathers using the points on the end of the wings as your guide. Create feather look with comma strokes in white being careful to place the commas in a wing like fashion in sections.

Faces and Hands and Hair
Shade with dark flesh. Place shading around the angel's hairline on her neck under the chin, a slight touch under her lip. Paint lips with wild rose.
Shade around the baby's face. Give both a blush of sweetheart blush. The angel's eye is a liner brush line in the shape of a curved triangle. Add a small dot of light ivory in the corner. Then add a small comma of any brown (autumn brown) for the iris. Finish with a small highlight of light ivory. The baby's eyes are shut as if he is sleeping. They are lined with dark flesh and have small black lashes. (See pattern sheet for details). The hair looks dull painted with just black so add a few lines of light ivory and navy blue to give it movement and shape. If you get too heavy handed, just brush back over it with a rake brush of thinned black, being careful to follow the flow of the hairstyle.

Ribbon and Shoes
Dry brush highlights of ivory and shades of black as shown in the photo. These are to give the objects dimension but have no special placement. Use you best judgment.

Rosebud Border
This is optional and if your box is to small, the angel will look just fine without it. I use this border quite often to fill empty space and you don't really need to draw the pattern on to do it. Line the vine with Green Isle. This is just a squiggly line to give you direction as to how to build you border. Apply off shoot in a curved fashion wherever you want to add leaves and rose buds. The rose buds are just ovals painted with lisa pink. Don't go overboard with the rose buds. They are there as support for your design and too much here will take away from your center of interest. Shade the bottom of the buds with sweetheart blush. Make a swirl with a liner brush of white. The leaves are a #2 filbert brush double loaded with green isle and silver pine. They are two stroke leaves (two commas strokes side by side that meet in the middle). Place leaves one on each side of each bud & wherever you need to fill in.

Allow to cure for 24 hours and varnish.

The Yellow Lavender Angel Box

This box was painted the same way as the blue/pink box above but I changed the hair and facial colors to represent an African American Angel. I also used a different pattern for the front so that the angle is carrying the baby in a bundle suspended from her hands. I omitted the long hair and added the top of the Angel's shoulder. Refer to directions for the blue box pink angle above for details.

Background
Base the box with a 50/50 mixture of pineapple yellow and light ivory. Sponge as described in the blue angel instruction using light ivory.

Basecoats
Dress - purple dusk
Wings - chambray blue
Ribbon and shoes and baby bundle- white
All hair - a medium wash of spice brown
Skin areas - autumn brown

Dress
Wash the dress as for the pink angel with a 50/50 wash of white.
Shade with eggplant mixed with a little black.

Skin, Eyes, and Hair
Shade with spice brown mixed with a little black.. Add any needed highlights with dark flesh. Eyes are done the same way as the pink angel. The baby here as the same eye style as the angels. The hair is liner work. Make small curls of black to form the hair. Leave areas of the spice brown wash showing to give interest.

Wings
Place shading the same way as for the pink angel but use eggplant and then only in the deepest shadow areas, eggplant plus black. Use chambray on the baby bundle and add a plaid design in pineapple yellow and purple dusk.

Rosebud Border
The leaves and vine remain the same. The buds are based purple dusk and shaded at the bottom with eggplant plus black. The liner swirl is white.
